Rumors about a movie based on The Legend of Zelda video game have been denied. Illumination Entertainment, the company behind the successful Super Mario Bros. Movie, partnered with Nintendo for that film, which became a huge hit. This led to speculation that the next project could be a movie about The Legend of Zelda.

However, Illumination Entertainment's CEO, Chris Meledandri, clarified in an interview that a Zelda movie is not currently in the works. He stated that he doesn't know where the rumor originated from, despite the strong partnership between Nintendo and Illumination.

Although there are no specific movie projects announced at the moment, Nintendo has expressed its intention to continue making movies based on their popular game franchises. Apart from Mario and Zelda, they have other popular titles like Kirby, Star Fox, Pokémon, Animal Crossing, and Final Fantasy to choose from.

The Legend of Zelda is a significant property for Nintendo and has a vast fantasy world with captivating characters. Even people who haven't played the games might be interested in a movie set in this universe, similar to popular series like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, House of the Dragon, and The Wheel of Time.

It's likely that Nintendo will eventually develop a movie based on The Legend of Zelda, considering its popularity. However, they are currently focused on exploring more opportunities within the Mario franchise before moving on to other projects.
