Box Office Concerns for The Flash: Tracking Close to Black Adam's Numbers
The Flash is a highly anticipated movie from DC Comics. It has a big budget of $200 million and features popular superheroes like Batman, Supergirl, and General Zod. However, early projections suggest that its opening weekend box office earnings might be similar to another DC movie called Black Adam, which is a cause for concern.
Black Adam, despite having high hopes for launching a new DC Universe, did not perform well enough to get a sequel. It earned $68 million during its opening weekend and finished with a total box office collection of $393 million. If The Flash also opens around $70 million, it will need to have strong audience support to avoid a similar fate.
Fortunately, The Flash has received better reviews compared to Black Adam. It was screened early, generating positive reactions and word-of-mouth recommendations. Currently, it holds a 69% score on Rotten Tomatoes, while Black Adam has only 38%. These mixed-to-positive reviews suggest that The Flash might have a better chance at the box office.
However, The Flash still needs to earn at least $450 million to break even due to its high production costs. If it ends up with numbers similar to Black Adam, it would be disappointing for DC. Ideally, The Flash would perform more like The Batman, which earned $770 million globally after a $128.5 million domestic opening weekend.
Now that The Flash is releasing worldwide, its success will depend on the audience's reception. The movie's performance at the box office will determine how well DC's big summer release fares.
