Controversies and Cameo Cuts in The Flash: An Overview of DC Movie Drama
The Flash movie had a lot of delays and problems during its production, but it was finally released on June 16, 2023. However, even after the release, there were controversies surrounding the movie. Many cameos from famous DC actors were cut or rejected from the theatrical version.
There have been significant changes at DC Studios, with James Gunn and Peter Safran becoming co-CEOs of the company. In January 2023, Gunn announced a plan for the future of the DC Universe, which included rebooting the franchise after The Flash movie directed by Andy Muschietti.
The Flash movie is loosely based on a comic book storyline called Flashpoint. It follows the character Barry Allen, played by Ezra Miller, who uses his superpowers to travel back in time and prevent his mother's murder. However, this action has unintended consequences and changes the DC Universe, bringing Barry into contact with other superheroes from different realities.
Some characters were expected to make cameos in The Flash but were not included in the final version. Henry Cavill's Superman and Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman were among them. Cavill's cameo was cut, and his future in the DC Universe is uncertain. Gadot's appearances were also trimmed, and her future in the franchise is unclear as well.
Dwayne Johnson, who played Black Adam, had high hopes that his movie would revive the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). However, Black Adam received negative reviews and didn't perform well at the box office. Johnson turned down cameo opportunities in Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash. There are controversies surrounding Johnson's involvement in Fury of the Gods, and his future in the franchise is doubtful.
Grant Gustin, who portrayed the Flash in The CW's TV series "Arrowverse," didn't have a role in The Flash movie, despite his long tenure as the character. Similarly, Lynda Carter, who played Wonder Woman in a 1970s TV series, was supposed to appear in The Flash but was ultimately cut from the film.
Marlon Brando, a legendary actor, appeared in the 1978 Superman movie as Jor-El, Superman's father. Brando had specific demands for his role and was paid a significant amount of money for his brief appearance.
