JioCinema, the digital streaming partner for the Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket tournament, will offer free streaming of all 74 matches in the 2023 edition and beyond, starting March 31. The platform has introduced several new features, such as multiple camera angles, Ultra-HD 4K resolution, text commentary, statistics, and match highlights, among others, to enhance the viewing experience for users. The service will be available in 12 languages, including English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Bhojpuri, Bengali, and Gujarati. The platform will also work on low-cost and low-tech options to enable users to stream IPL 2023, including through feature phones, old televisions, and adapters or cables. JioCinema is also working on making the IPL streaming VR-friendly, with equipment for this, such as an affordable VR headset (JioDive) and more expensive VR glasses (JioGlass), already in the works. However, there is no timeline for the full roll-out of VR features. JioCinema has previously streamed the 2022 FIFA World Cup in India and does not charge a subscription fee for access to the app and its content. The IPL 2023 will also be available to watch on linear cable and DTH television networks, with Star India retaining the rights for 2023.
