The fifth and final season of Netflix's hit series Stranger Things has been delayed due to the ongoing Hollywood writers' strike. The show's co-creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, confirmed their solidarity with the strike and expressed hope for a fair deal to be reached soon. The Writers Guild of America rules prevent writer-producers from participating in writing or creative duties during the strike. Netflix has respected the creators' wishes and delayed filming until further notice. Meanwhile, Disney's Andor season 2 will resume production without its primary writer. Other productions, such as Amazon's The Lord of the Rings: the Rings of Power season 2 and HBO's House of the Dragon season 2, have taken measures to continue production amidst the strike.

Stranger Things 5 was originally scheduled to begin filming this month, but it is unclear when production will now start. The Duffer Brothers have an overall partnership with Netflix for multiple Stranger Things projects, including an animated series and a stage play. Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos has confirmed that the streaming giant is better prepared than most studios to minimize disruptions from the strike.

There is no release window for Stranger Things season 5, while Andor season 2 is aiming for an August 2024 release on Disney+ and Disney+ Hotstar.
