Martin Scorsese unveils first footage from 'Killers of the Flower Moon' at CinemaCon, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Rihanna as surprise guests.
At CinemaCon, Martin Scorsese unveiled the first footage from his upcoming film "Killers of the Flower Moon," which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. The dark western is based on a true story of greed, love, and murder set in the 1920s, where members of the Osage Nation began dying and disappearing in mysterious circumstances. The twisty crime drama will hit theaters in October and will be Apple's highest-profile big-screen release yet, as the tech giant hopes to drum up interest in its Apple TV+ streaming platform. The film was shot at the true, real-life locations where grisly events took place, and Scorsese said the script was reworked until the last day of shooting to "do right by" the Osage people. The film will premiere at next month's Cannes film festival.
Paramount also presented footage from upcoming films, including "Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One" and "Transformers: Rise of the Beasts." The presentation featured a surprise appearance from pop superstar Rihanna, who joked about her newly announced role in "The Smurf Movie" and her pregnancy.
During a Q&A session, Scorsese and DiCaprio discussed the movie's events as a "forgotten part of our past," and how they were interested in exploring how "some of these people could have done what they did" to the Osage. Scorsese also called on owners of multiplexes to play "truly independent films" alongside more mainstream fare.
