Leak Suggests Apple Watch Won't Get MicroLED Display Before Second Half of 2025
According to a recent leak by DSCC analyst Ross Young, Apple is unlikely to bring microLED display technology to the Apple Watch before the second half of 2025, contradicting previous rumors. Apple Watch currently uses OLED displays, but microLED technology offers higher resolution and color contrast. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman had earlier suggested that Apple would replace OLED with microLED in its iPhone, iPad, and Mac units starting from 2024.
Apple is reportedly planning to use its own screens for the iPhone and Apple Watch to reduce its dependency on companies like Samsung and LG. Samsung is also said to be considering adopting microLED displays for its future Galaxy series wearables, with a team already working on commercializing the technology for Galaxy smartwatches by the end of this year. Samsung's premium smart TVs already use microLED displays manufactured by Samsung Electronics.
