Vivo is reportedly working on two new foldable phones Vivo X Fold 2 and the Vivo X Flip
Chinese smartphone maker Vivo is reportedly working on two new foldable phones, the Vivo X Fold 2 and the Vivo X Flip. While the company has not officially confirmed the launch of these devices, a tipster has leaked details of the specifications of the Vivo X Fold 2. According to the leak, the device could be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 system-on-chip, making it the first foldable smartphone to use this chipset. The phone is also said to feature two 2,340mAh batteries with a total capacity of 4,800mAh and support for 120W fast charging. There is no information on whether the device will support wireless charging or reverse wireless charging.
Last year's Vivo X Fold was equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC and a 4,600mAh battery with support for 66W fast charging. The Vivo X Fold 2 is rumored to have a foldable display with a 2K resolution, and the front and inner display may have under-display fingerprint scanners. The tipster suggests that the phone could be released in the first half of 2023.
Vivo is not the only smartphone maker working on foldable phones. Samsung, Motorola, and Xiaomi have already launched foldable phones, and other manufacturers such as Oppo and Google are also said to be working on similar devices. Foldable phones are still a niche product due to their high price and the lack of mainstream use cases, but they offer a glimpse into the future of smartphone design and could eventually replace traditional phones.
