Harry Potter Remake: Fixing the Dueling Problem and Taking Inspiration from Hogwarts Legacy

HBO will be remaking the Harry Potter movies and has a chance to fix a problem with how magical duels are portrayed on screen. In the original films, the duels were simplified and didn't capture the complexity and uniqueness described in the books. The issue started with the Chamber of Secrets movie and continued in later installments and even in the Fantastic Beasts films. However, the upcoming remake can learn from the Hogwarts Legacy video game to improve the dueling scenes.

In the Harry Potter books, duels between wizards were exciting and intricate, with different spells and combinations used to outwit opponents. Unfortunately, the movies simplified these battles, with wizards mainly launching each other backward with their spells. Even the unique effects of specific spells were removed, making the duels less interesting.

The simplification continued until the Goblet of Fire movie, where a new problem emerged. The unique connection between Harry and Voldemort's wands, called Priori Incantatum, was supposed to be a special occurrence, but it was overused in subsequent duels, including those in the Fantastic Beasts movies.

This simplification of dueling has frustrated fans of the books for a long time. The HBO remake aims to be more faithful to the books, including the dueling scenes. The video game Hogwarts Legacy provides inspiration, as it features complex and visually stunning duels with spells that have unique effects on targets. Players can learn different combinations of spells, resulting in impressive battles.

Although it will require more work on special effects, the HBO remake has the potential to showcase the true essence of wizarding duels as described in the books. By taking inspiration from the Hogwarts Legacy video game, the remake can create visually stunning and faithful dueling scenes that do justice to the Harry Potter series.
