Microsoft to host Xbox Games Showcase on June 11 with new surprises and first-looks
Microsoft has announced that it will hold its Xbox Games Showcase on June 11, which will be streamed live across Xbox's official YouTube and Twitch channels. The event promises to feature new surprises and first-looks from Xbox's internal and third-party studios. This will be followed by a Starfield Direct event, which will showcase new gameplay, developer interviews, and behind-the-scenes content. Starfield is Bethesda's first newly-crafted universe in 25 years, and it will be a space-set RPG that leans heavily on character customisation and adds a Persuasion system to conversations.
The Xbox Games Showcase comes after several major publishers, including Xbox, opted out of the annual E3 exhibition, which led to its cancellation in March. This also comes after the release of Redfall, which was received poorly by critics and fans alike, and the lacklustre exclusive slate from Xbox. Microsoft's follow-up stream is planned for June 13 and will feature in-depth interviews focused on the titles that debut at the Xbox Games Showcase.
The cancellation of E3 and the rise of online-only events like Summer Game Fest have proven that online-only events are a viable way to market games. The Xbox Games Showcase and Starfield Direct events are part of Microsoft's effort to showcase their games and build hype among their fans.
