Karl Urban in Final Talks to Play Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat Sequel

Karl Urban is reportedly in final negotiations to play Johnny Cage in the Mortal Kombat sequel. The Boys star will join the returning director Simon McQuoid and writer Jeremy Slater in the live-action adaptation. Urban, who has prior experience in blockbuster roles and video game projects such as Doom, is expected to play the confident action movie star with an immense martial arts background. Johnny Cage was the only lead character left out of the 2021 Mortal Kombat film, but a post-credits scene teased his appearance in a potential sequel. Mortal Kombat was released simultaneously in theaters and on HBO Max during the pandemic, grossing $84.4 million at the worldwide box office against a $55 million production budget. The sequel has no release details yet.
