Tesla Model Y received the highest grade of any vehicle in the European safety test

The 2022 Tesla Model Y received the highest grade of any vehicle in the European safety test, the Euro NCAP, in the “safety assist” category which evaluated the safety technologies of vehicles like the Tesla Autopilot system. The Model Y received a 98% score and received a 5-star ranking, indicating excellent performance in crash protection and robust crash avoidance technology. It received the highest marks in two categories and the second-highest score in the third category, vulnerable road users. The European version of the Autopilot system has more limitations compared to the US version. The National Transportation Safety Board has called for Tesla to improve its driver-assist technologies, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating cases where Tesla vehicles using Autopilot have been involved in accidents with emergency vehicles and motorcyclists. The Model Y’s automatic emergency braking system performed well in its response to pedestrians, according to Euro NCAP.
