Production for season 2 of the popular TV show The Last of Us has been put on hold due to the ongoing writers' strike in Hollywood. Although casting had begun, scripts for the show are not yet ready, and plans to begin filming have been delayed. Co-creator Craig Mazin was spotted on the picket line with other members of the Writers Guild of America, and it is against the guild's guidelines for writer-producers to participate in writing or creative duties during the strike.

The Last of Us season 1 received positive reviews and was greenlit for a second season almost immediately. The show is based on a popular video game that centres around a revenge story and the ability to forgive, presented in a non-linear format that jumps between two lead characters. The second season is confirmed to bring back the show's leads, Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey.

Other TV and film productions have also been impacted by the writers' strike, including the filming of Stranger Things 5, which has been halted. However, House of the Dragon season 2 will continue production as scripts were completed before the strike, and the executive producer will be present on set in a non-writing capacity. The Last of Us season 2 release date is uncertain, but it is expected to be delayed until late 2024 or early 2025.
