India won two gold medals at the Women's World Boxing Championship, with Nitu Ghanghas and Saweety Boora emerging as champions in the 48kg and 81kg categories respectively. Nitu defeated Mongolia’s Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg in a unanimous decision, while Saweety defeated China's Wang Lina with a split decision. Both boxers were emotional after their victories, with Nitu weeping in her coach's arms and Saweety waving the Indian flag.

If India wins in the remaining categories, it will equal its greatest-ever women's boxing moment in 2006, led by M C Mary Kom. Nitu, who hails from Dhanana village in Bhiwani, won her initial days in boxing, watching fellow contestants win medals. She went on to win two Youth World Championship golds and a Commonwealth Games gold. Saweety, from Hisar, won her second World Championship medal, after winning a silver in 2014. Her family hopes her gold medal will help her qualify in the 75-kg category for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
