Former Apple executive and founder of Electronic Arts, Trip Hawkins, is joining Web3 startup Games for a Living (GFAL) as co-founder and strategy chief. GFAL publishes blockchain-compatible titles across consoles, personal computers, and smartphones, and is looking to compete with top blockchain games like Axie Infinity. Web3 gaming has gained popularity among cryptocurrency users, as players can own, sell, and trade in-game goods. However, there are concerns around security as cyberwallets are more prone to hacking. GFAL, founded in 2021 by former King executive Manel Sort, had a post-money valuation of EUR 13.2 million after its latest funding round in 2021. Hawkins believes that "Web3 is the bridge to the metaverse" and that the economy of the metaverse has to be more like the real world. Indian industry experts predict that NFT projects will take the Web3 sector by storm in 2023, and hardware makers like smartphone companies are expected to make their products more Web3-friendly starting next year.
